Special Feature (Experimental Jetset Parody Followup)

a jetset experimental style blank t-shirt with ampersands
t-shirt connoisseur recently did a feature: top ten experimental jetset parodies, listing the best of the many many parodies, rip-offs, bootlegs, tributes, & take offs, or whatever you want to call it of the list of names designs by experimental jetset. The designs feature names of members from famous bands vertically listed in Helvetica typeface with ampersands, and ending in a period.

Recently, The Names Brand t-shirt shop opened up, exclusively selling t-shirts of this style (sports, music, TV, movies, politics, video games, celebrities, etc) ..... but nowhere on their site do they mention Experimental Jetset. Real classy, guys. There's probably no trademark on the basic style, but if you are starting a business based exclusively on someone else's work, it would be nice to at least give a little tip of the hat.

Despite all this shark jumping, I still like the tee shirt concept, but if I ever want one of these designs, I'll just make it myself @ Spreadshirt (the same t-shirt fufillment service they use.) "The Names Brand" mark-up is pretty bold for a text tee, $23.00 minus 19.90 Spreadshirt fee for same tee made yourself = $3.10 for a design your can make in your browser in less than a minute.

** Update - The Names Brand dropped a comment, turns out they do have a section explaining the origin, even checked a cached version to check that it wasn't a new addition. Fair play to them. **

we came up with like 20 versions of that tee in the office. none of which have been done. then we decided with The Name Brand doing ONLY that, that perhaps we should just move on.

Good call! And in an alternate universe that you did run those designs, would you have dropped the Jetset Experimental name? ;)

well, that is half the reason for not doing it right? you don’t want to copy and if you do, you don’t want to say its not your idea… but at this point its so out there being parodied by everyone.

Hey, thanks for checking out the site. We definitely gave EJ credit in our About section ( http://bit.ly/5Cia ). We also give them credit in all the press interviews we do.
